How to Setup IPTV on Amazon Firestick
The Amazon Firestick is the most popular IPTV device in UK households. This guide covers everything you need to install and configure an IPTV player on any Firestick model, including the Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube. You will be streaming in under 10 minutes.
What You Need Before Starting
Make sure you have the following ready before you begin. Having everything prepared beforehand means the entire setup process takes roughly 10 minutes from start to finish.
- An Amazon Firestick (any model — Lite, standard, 4K, 4K Max, or Fire TV Cube) plugged into your TV and connected to Wi-Fi
- A stable broadband connection with at least 15 Mbps download speed for HD content, or 25 Mbps for 4K streaming
- Your IPTV subscription credentials — either an M3U URL or Xtream Codes details (server address, username, and password) from your provider
If you do not have an IPTV subscription yet, you can grab one with instant activation and a free trial to test before committing.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Follow these steps in order. The process is identical across all Firestick models — only the menu layout varies slightly between older and newer firmware versions.
Enable Apps from Unknown Sources
IPTV apps like TiviMate and IPTV Smarters are not available on the official Amazon App Store, so you need to allow your Firestick to install apps from outside the store. This is a standard setting that millions of Firestick users enable.
Navigate to Settings from your Firestick home screen (the gear icon on the far right). Select My Fire TV, then Developer Options. Turn on Install Unknown Apps. If you see a list of apps, you will enable this permission specifically for the Downloader app in the next step.
On newer Fire OS versions, this option may be labelled “Apps from Unknown Sources” or appear under My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install Unknown Apps.
Install the Downloader App
Downloader is a free, trusted app that lets you download APK files directly to your Firestick. It is available on the Amazon App Store.
From your Firestick home screen, go to Find > Search (or use the magnifying glass icon). Type Downloader using the on-screen keyboard. Select the orange Downloader app by AFTVnews from the results and click Download. Once installed, open it. If prompted to allow Downloader to install unknown apps, select Allow.
Download Your IPTV Player App
Open the Downloader app. In the URL field, type the download address for your preferred IPTV player. The two most popular choices for Firestick are:
IPTV Smarters Pro — best for beginners. Clean interface, supports both M3U and Xtream Codes login, and straightforward channel navigation. Enter the URL your provider gives you, or search for the latest Smarters Pro APK download link.
TiviMate — best for power users. Superior EPG layout, catch-up TV support, multi-playlist management, and extensive customisation. TiviMate Premium (one-time purchase) unlocks recording and multiple playlists.
After typing the URL, press Go. The APK file will download. When prompted, click Install. Once installed, click Open to launch the app, or click Done to return to the Downloader and delete the APK file to save storage space.
Enter Your IPTV Subscription Details
Open your newly installed IPTV app. You will see a login screen or a prompt to add a playlist. Your IPTV provider will have sent you one of the following:
Option A — Xtream Codes Login: Select “Xtream Codes API” or “Login with Xtream Codes”. Enter the three details your provider gave you: the server URL (sometimes called “host”), your username, and your password. Tap Add User or Login.
Option B — M3U URL: Select “Load Your Playlist” or “M3U URL”. Paste the full M3U URL your provider sent you. This is a long web address that usually starts with http:// and ends with .m3u or .m3u8. Tap Add.
Tip: typing long URLs on a Firestick remote is tedious. Use the Amazon Fire TV phone app to type on your mobile keyboard instead, or ask your provider to email you the details so you can copy and paste.
Load EPG and Start Watching
After entering your credentials, the app will connect to your IPTV server and load your channel list. This first load usually takes between 30 seconds and 2 minutes depending on how many channels your subscription includes.
Once loaded, channels are typically organised into categories — UK Entertainment, UK Sports, UK News, Movies, Kids, International, and so on. Browse to the category you want, select a channel, and you are streaming live TV.
If your app supports EPG (Electronic Programme Guide), navigate to the EPG or TV Guide section to see a full schedule layout similar to Sky's programme guide. Most apps load EPG data automatically from your provider.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Buffering During Playback
Buffering is almost always a network issue rather than a device or app problem. Start by running a speed test on your Firestick — navigate to Settings > Network, select your Wi-Fi network, and check the signal strength and speed. If your speed is below 15 Mbps, try moving your router closer to the Firestick, switching to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, or using an Ethernet adapter for a wired connection. An Amazon Ethernet Adapter for Fire TV costs under 15 pounds and eliminates Wi-Fi instability entirely.
App Crashes or Fails to Open
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Find your IPTV app, select it, and choose Clear Cache followed by Clear Data. Reopen the app and re-enter your credentials. If the issue persists, uninstall the app via Downloader and reinstall the latest version.
Channels Not Loading or Showing Errors
This usually means your subscription has expired or your credentials are incorrect. Double-check the server URL, username, and password with your IPTV provider. If you are using an M3U URL, make sure the full URL was pasted without any missing characters. Contact your provider support if channels were working previously and stopped unexpectedly.
“Install Unknown Apps” Option Missing
On the latest Fire OS updates, Amazon has moved this setting. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options. If Developer Options is not visible, click on “About” and tap on your Fire TV name 7 times rapidly — this enables the developer menu, similar to how Android phones work.
IPTV Smarters Pro vs TiviMate — Which Is Better?
Both apps work well on Firestick, but they serve different types of viewers. IPTV Smarters Pro is the better choice if you want a simple, clean interface that loads quickly and requires minimal configuration. It supports Xtream Codes and M3U login, has a built-in video player, and organises channels into clear categories. For most UK households who just want to turn on the TV and watch, Smarters Pro is the right pick.
TiviMate is the superior choice for users who want a premium EPG experience, catch-up TV functionality, the ability to manage multiple IPTV subscriptions in one app, and granular control over playback settings. The free version limits you to one playlist, while TiviMate Premium (a one-time purchase) unlocks everything including recording functionality. If you come from a Sky or Virgin Media background and want the closest experience to a traditional set-top box programme guide, TiviMate is worth the small investment.
