How to Setup IPTV on LG Smart TV
Get IPTV running on your LG Smart TV with webOS. Covers SS IPTV, Smart IPTV, and the Firestick alternative for older models.
LG Smart TV and IPTV Compatibility
LG Smart TVs from 2018 onwards run webOS, which is a proprietary operating system different from both Samsung Tizen and Android TV. This distinction matters because webOS has a more restricted app ecosystem than Android-based devices, which means fewer IPTV apps are available natively. However, there are several reliable methods to get IPTV running on your LG TV, and this guide covers all of them.
To check your LG TV model and webOS version, navigate to Settings, then General, then About This TV. The model number indicates the year — models with a “9” suffix are 2019, “0” is 2020, “1” is 2021, “2” is 2022, “3” is 2023, and so on. webOS 5.0 and above (2020 models onward) offer the best IPTV app support.
What You Need
- An LG Smart TV running webOS (2018 or newer, 2020+ recommended)
- Your TV connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet with at least 15 Mbps
- Your IPTV subscription credentials — M3U URL or Xtream Codes details
- A phone or computer for app activation (some methods require this)
Method 1: SS IPTV (Best Native Option)
SS IPTV is the most reliable native IPTV app available on LG webOS TVs. It is free to download from the LG Content Store and supports M3U playlists with EPG functionality. This is the recommended method for most LG TV owners.
Open the LG Content Store from your TV home screen. Search for “SS IPTV” and install it. Launch the app — on first run it will display a device code on your TV screen. On your phone or computer, visit the SS IPTV website and navigate to the playlist upload section. Enter the device code shown on your TV, then paste your M3U playlist URL and save. Return to the app on your TV and refresh — your channels will load automatically.
SS IPTV organises channels by the group tags defined in your M3U file. If your provider has well-structured playlists, you will see categories like UK Entertainment, UK Sports, Movies, and so on. The app also supports an EPG overlay, though the programme guide is more basic than what TiviMate offers on Firestick.
Method 2: Smart IPTV (SIPTV)
Smart IPTV works on LG webOS TVs using the same MAC-based activation system as on Samsung. Check the LG Content Store for availability — the app costs a one-time activation fee of approximately 5 euros. Once installed, it displays a MAC address on screen. Visit siptv.app/mylist on your phone, enter the MAC address, upload your M3U playlist URL, and reload the app on your TV.
Note that Smart IPTV availability on the LG Content Store can be intermittent as LG occasionally removes third-party IPTV apps. If it is not available, SS IPTV or the Firestick method below are your alternatives.
Method 3: Use a Firestick with Your LG TV (Most Flexible)
If native webOS apps are too limited for your needs, plugging an Amazon Firestick into one of your LG TV's HDMI ports gives you access to the full range of IPTV apps — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, and every other Android-based player. This is the approach used by the majority of serious IPTV users with LG TVs.
Simply plug the Firestick into any available HDMI port, switch your TV input to that HDMI source, and follow our Firestick setup guide. You get the best of both worlds — your LG TV's excellent display quality combined with the Firestick's superior app ecosystem.
Method 4: LG TV Web Browser
As a last resort, LG webOS includes a built-in web browser. If your IPTV provider offers a web-based portal, you can access it directly through the browser. Open the browser from your apps list, navigate to your provider's web portal URL, and log in with your credentials. This method works but offers a subpar experience compared to dedicated apps — expect slower channel switching and no EPG support.
Troubleshooting
SS IPTV Not Loading Channels
If your playlist does not load after uploading via the website, wait 2 to 3 minutes before refreshing the app. Large playlists with 10,000+ channels can take time to process. If channels still do not appear, verify your M3U URL is correct by testing it in VLC on your computer first.
Apps Removed from LG Content Store
LG periodically removes IPTV apps from their store. If your preferred app disappears, try SS IPTV as the primary alternative, or switch to the Firestick method for guaranteed long-term app access. Once an app is installed on your TV, it typically continues to work even if removed from the store — it just cannot be reinstalled if deleted.
Buffering on LG TV
LG TVs benefit significantly from wired Ethernet connections. The built-in Wi-Fi on many LG models is weaker than dedicated streaming devices. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the LG TV's Ethernet port for the most stable streaming experience. Also check our buffering fix guide for additional solutions.
