How to Setup IPTV on MAG Box
Configure your MAG box for IPTV streaming. Step-by-step portal URL setup, playlist loading, and troubleshooting for all MAG models.
What Is a MAG Box?
MAG boxes are dedicated IPTV set-top boxes manufactured by Infomir, a Ukrainian company that has been making IPTV hardware since 2005. Unlike Firestick or Android boxes which are general-purpose streaming devices, MAG boxes are built specifically for IPTV. They connect to your IPTV provider through a portal URL rather than an app, which gives them a distinctive set-top-box experience that feels more like traditional satellite TV than app-based streaming.
The most popular MAG models in the UK are the MAG 322 (HD, budget-friendly), MAG 420 (4K, mid-range), MAG 524 (4K with HEVC, current flagship), and MAG 540 (latest model with improved Wi-Fi). All MAG boxes use the same setup process regardless of model — only the supported resolution differs.
What You Need
- A MAG box (any model from MAG 250 onwards) connected to your TV via HDMI
- Ethernet cable connected to your router (strongly recommended — MAG boxes perform significantly better on wired connections)
- Your IPTV portal URL from your provider (this is different from an M3U URL)
- Your MAG box MAC address (printed on a label on the bottom of the box, starting with 00:1A:79)
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Connect and Power On
Connect the MAG box to your TV using the included HDMI cable. Plug in the Ethernet cable from your router. Connect the power adapter. The box will boot up and display the MAG portal interface. On first boot, it may take a few minutes to initialise and check for firmware updates.
Step 2: Find Your MAC Address
Your MAC address is required by your IPTV provider to activate your subscription on this specific device. You can find it on the label on the bottom of the box, or in the system settings: press the Menu button on your MAG remote, go to System Settings, then Device Info. The MAC address starts with 00:1A:79 followed by six more characters. Send this MAC address to your IPTV provider.
Step 3: Enter Your Portal URL
Press the Menu button on your MAG remote. Navigate to System Settings, then Servers, then Portals. In the Portal 1 Name field, enter any name (like “My IPTV”). In the Portal 1 URL field, enter the portal URL your provider gave you. This URL typically looks like http://portal.provider.com/c/ — enter it exactly as provided. Save the settings.
Step 4: Restart and Connect
After saving the portal URL, restart the MAG box by going to System Settings, then Restart Portal. The box will connect to your provider's server using your MAC address and portal URL. If your provider has activated your MAC address, the channel list will load and you will see the familiar IPTV portal interface with channel categories, EPG, and playback controls.
MAG Box vs Firestick for IPTV
MAG boxes offer a simpler, more focused IPTV experience. There are no apps to install, no sideloading, and no configuration beyond entering a portal URL. The portal interface is managed entirely by your provider, so channels, EPG, and categories are all pre-configured. However, MAG boxes are locked to a single provider (your portal URL), cannot run alternative IPTV apps like TiviMate, and have no access to other streaming services like Netflix or YouTube.
A Firestick offers more flexibility — multiple IPTV apps, multiple providers, plus access to all major streaming services. For most UK households, a Firestick is the better overall device. A MAG box makes sense if you want the absolute simplest setup or if your IPTV provider specifically recommends one.
Troubleshooting
Portal Not Loading
Verify the portal URL is entered exactly as your provider gave it. Even a missing character or wrong protocol (http vs https) will cause it to fail. Also confirm your provider has activated your specific MAC address — without MAC activation, the portal will reject the connection.
Channels Buffering
MAG boxes are particularly sensitive to network quality. Always use a wired Ethernet connection — Wi-Fi performance on MAG boxes is notably worse than on Firestick or Android boxes. If you must use Wi-Fi, position the box within clear line of sight to your router.
Black Screen After Portal Change
If you changed your portal URL and now see a black screen, hold the Menu button for 10 seconds to access the system recovery menu. From there, go to System Settings and re-enter the correct portal URL. If the box is completely unresponsive, unplug the power for 30 seconds and try again.
