How to Setup IPTV on Samsung Smart TV
Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen OS can run IPTV apps natively without any additional hardware. This guide walks you through installing and configuring an IPTV player directly on your Samsung TV, covering the three most reliable methods: the Samsung App Store, the Smart IPTV activation process, and using the built-in web browser as a fallback.
Compatible Samsung TV Models
Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 onwards run Tizen OS and support third-party app installation. However, the IPTV app experience is significantly better on 2020 and newer models due to improved processing power, faster app loading, and better network handling. If your TV was manufactured before 2017 (pre-Tizen), you will need an external device like an Amazon Firestick or Android box instead.
To check your TV model and firmware version, go to Settings > Support > About This TV. The model number tells you the year — for example, a model containing “TU” is 2020, “AU” is 2021, “BU” is 2022, “CU” is 2023, “DU” is 2024. Make sure your firmware is up to date before installing any IPTV app.
What You Need
- A Samsung Smart TV running Tizen OS (2020 or newer recommended)
- Your TV connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet with at least 15 Mbps
- Your IPTV subscription credentials — M3U URL or Xtream Codes details
- A phone or computer nearby for app activation (some apps require this)

Method 1: Install from Samsung App Store (Easiest)
The simplest approach is installing an IPTV app directly from Samsung's built-in app store. Not all IPTV apps are available here, but several reliable options are.
Open the Samsung App Store
Press the Home button on your Samsung remote. Navigate to Apps in the bottom menu bar. This opens the Samsung App Store where you can browse and search for available applications.
Search for an IPTV Player
Use the search icon (magnifying glass) in the top right corner of the Apps screen. Search for one of these apps:
Smart IPTV (SIPTV) — the most established Samsung IPTV app. It costs a one-time activation fee of around 5 euros but is the most reliable and widely supported option. It uses a unique MAC-based activation system.
IPTV Smarters — free to use, supports Xtream Codes login, and has a familiar interface similar to the Firestick version.
OTTPlayer — a free alternative that supports M3U playlists and works well on Tizen. It requires creating a free account on the OTTPlayer website to manage your playlists.
Install and Open Your Chosen App
Select the app from the search results and click Install. Once installed, open it. The app will display a MAC address on your TV screen — this is a unique identifier for your TV that you will need for the activation process. Write this down or take a photo of it.
Activate and Add Your Playlist
For Smart IPTV: On your phone or computer, visit siptv.app/mylist. Enter the MAC address shown on your TV screen. Paste your M3U URL into the playlist field and click Send. Return to the Smart IPTV app on your TV and restart it. Your channels will load automatically.
For IPTV Smarters: The app will prompt you to log in directly on the TV. Select Xtream Codes API and enter your server URL, username, and password using the on-screen keyboard. Alternatively, select “Load Your Playlist or File/URL” and paste your M3U URL.
For OTTPlayer: Create a free account at ottplayer.es, add your M3U playlist URL in your account settings, then log into the OTTPlayer app on your TV with the same credentials. Your playlist syncs automatically.
Browse Channels and Start Watching
Once your playlist loads, channels appear organised by category. Navigate using your Samsung remote — directional pad to browse, OK/Select to choose a channel, and the Back button to return to the channel list. Most apps support a programme guide if your provider includes EPG data.
Method 2: Using the Samsung Web Browser (No App Needed)
If you cannot find a suitable IPTV app in the Samsung App Store, or prefer not to install anything, you can use your Samsung TV's built-in web browser to access web-based IPTV players. This method works on any Samsung Smart TV with a browser.
Open the Internet app from your Samsung TV home screen. In the address bar, navigate to a web-based IPTV player such as your provider's web portal. Log in with your credentials. While this method works, the experience is less polished than a dedicated app — expect slower channel switching and no EPG support. It is best used as a temporary solution.
Troubleshooting
App Not Available in Samsung Store
Samsung occasionally removes IPTV apps from their store. If Smart IPTV or Smarters is not available, try OTTPlayer or the web browser method above. As a last resort, consider plugging an Amazon Firestick into one of your TV's HDMI ports — it gives you access to the full range of IPTV apps without limitations.
App Loads But Channels Buffer
Samsung TVs connect to your network via Wi-Fi by default, but their built-in Wi-Fi chips are often weaker than dedicated streaming devices. If you experience buffering, connect your TV to your router via an Ethernet cable. This alone fixes buffering issues for the majority of Samsung TV users. If Ethernet is not practical, position your router closer to the TV or use a Wi-Fi mesh system.
Playlist Not Loading After Activation
If your channels do not appear after adding your playlist, fully close the IPTV app (press and hold the Back button on your remote until you reach the home screen), then reopen it. For Smart IPTV specifically, wait 2-3 minutes after uploading your playlist on the website before restarting the app — the server needs time to process your playlist file.
Remote Control Difficult to Use for Typing
Samsung TVs support keyboard input from your phone via the SmartThings app. Install SmartThings on your phone, connect it to the same Wi-Fi network as your TV, and you can use your phone keyboard to type URLs and credentials.
