GSE Smart IPTV — Setup Guide for iOS and Apple TV
The best IPTV player for Apple devices. Set up GSE Smart IPTV on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV with M3U playlists and EPG support.
Why GSE Smart IPTV for Apple Devices
Most top-tier IPTV players like TiviMate are Android-only. GSE Smart IPTV fills this gap for Apple users, offering a fully-featured IPTV player on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and macOS. It supports M3U playlists and JSON playlist formats, has a built-in EPG, supports AirPlay for casting to Apple TV from your phone, and syncs playlists across devices via iCloud. Best of all, the core features are completely free.
Installing GSE Smart IPTV
Open the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Search for “GSE Smart IPTV” and tap Get. The app is free to download. On Mac, you can install the iPad version via the Mac App Store if you are running Apple Silicon (M1 or later). Once installed, open the app and grant any permission requests for local network access.
Adding Your IPTV Playlist
Method 1: M3U URL (Recommended)
In GSE Smart IPTV, tap the hamburger menu (three lines), then select Remote Playlists, then tap the plus icon to add a new playlist. Enter a name for your playlist and paste your M3U URL. Tap Add. The app will download and parse your playlist. Depending on the playlist size, this may take 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
Method 2: Xtream Codes API
GSE also supports Xtream Codes login. Go to Remote Playlists, tap the plus icon, and select Xtream Codes API. Enter your server URL, username, and password. This method enables additional features like VOD libraries and series categorisation that M3U does not support.
Using AirPlay with IPTV
One of GSE's best features for Apple households is AirPlay support. Start playing any channel on your iPhone or iPad, then tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible Smart TV. The IPTV stream will cast to your TV while your phone acts as a remote control. This is an excellent solution for Apple TV owners who do not want to install a separate app on the Apple TV itself.
iCloud Playlist Sync
If you use GSE on both your iPhone and iPad, enable iCloud sync in the app settings. Your playlists, favourites, and EPG settings will automatically sync across all your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. Add a playlist once and it appears everywhere.
Troubleshooting
App Crashes on Large Playlists
Playlists with more than 8,000 channels can cause GSE to crash on older iPhones (iPhone 8 and earlier). Ask your provider for a lite playlist with fewer channels, or manually remove channel groups you do not need by editing the M3U file before adding it.
AirPlay Audio Out of Sync
If audio falls out of sync when using AirPlay, pause playback for 3 seconds then resume. This forces the AirPlay buffer to reset. If the issue persists, try connecting your Apple TV via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi to reduce latency.
