IPTV Troubleshooting — Fix Every Common Problem

Solutions for every common IPTV problem — black screens, crashes, auth errors, missing channels, audio sync, and EPG issues.

Black Screen When Opening a Channel

A black screen with no error message typically means the stream URL is inactive or your device cannot decode the stream format. Try a different channel first — if other channels work, the specific channel is down on your provider's server and you should report it. If all channels show a black screen, your subscription may have expired, your credentials may be incorrect, or your device's video decoder needs switching. Go to your app's settings and toggle between Hardware and Software decoder.

App Crashes on Launch

Clear the app's cache and data from your device settings (Settings, Applications, your IPTV app, Clear Cache, Clear Data). This resets the app to a fresh state. Reopen and re-enter your credentials. If the app still crashes, uninstall it completely and reinstall the latest version. On Firestick, also restart the device by holding Select and Play simultaneously for 5 seconds.

Authentication Error or “Account Expired”

Double-check your credentials character by character. The most common errors are trailing spaces after the username or password (which happen when copy-pasting), http vs https in the server URL, and case sensitivity in the username. If your credentials are correct but you see an expiry message, your subscription has genuinely expired — contact your provider to renew.

Missing Channels or Empty Categories

If channels that previously worked are now missing, your provider likely updated their playlist. Force a playlist refresh in your IPTV app (usually in Settings or by pulling down on the channel list). If entire categories are empty, your provider may have reorganised their channel groups. Contact support to ask if the playlist structure changed.

Audio Playing But No Video

This is a video decoder issue. Switch from Hardware to Software decoder (or vice versa) in your app's playback settings. If you hear audio with a black screen, the stream is working but your device cannot decode the video format. Software decoding is slower but handles more formats. This issue is most common on older devices with limited codec support.

Audio Out of Sync with Video

Audio sync issues are usually caused by network jitter or decoder lag. In your IPTV app, look for an audio delay or audio sync setting and adjust it in small increments (50 to 100 milliseconds at a time). If the desync is consistent across all channels, restart your streaming device. If it only affects specific channels, the issue is on your provider's encoding side — report the specific channels.

Channels Work on Phone But Not on TV

If the same credentials work on your phone but not on your TV or Firestick, the issue is device-specific. Common causes: your TV's Wi-Fi is weaker than your phone's (try Ethernet), your TV's IPTV app is outdated (update it), or your provider has a connection limit and your phone is using one of the allowed connections. Close the IPTV app on your phone before opening it on the TV.

“Too Many Connections” Error

This means you have exceeded your subscription's simultaneous connection limit. Close the IPTV app on any device you are not actively watching. If you get this error when only one device is connected, your previous session may not have closed properly. Wait 5 minutes and try again — most providers auto-clear stale connections after a short timeout. If the error persists, contact your provider to reset your active connections.

General Tips

  • Always restart your streaming device as a first troubleshooting step — it resolves more issues than you would expect
  • Keep your IPTV app updated to the latest version
  • Test in a different app before contacting your provider — if it works in VLC but not TiviMate, the issue is app configuration, not your subscription
  • When contacting support, include your device model, app name and version, specific channels affected, and the exact error message
